SLO: Creekside Art / Enjoyment #2

More public art, sculpture to be precise, from SLO's Creekside Walk.

You may have noticed stray bits of garbage and graffiti on the WEB OF LIFE sculpture in my previous post. Here, the bear is turning away from the discarded aluminum can. C'mon people, pick up after yourselves!

Here is another sculpture by artist Jim Jacobson, based on local native Chumash Pictographs.

In the photo below, this "red" figure is almost invisible in the "straight-on" shot.

SLO: Creekside Art / Enjoyment #1

Stopped in SLO for respite from driving, and wandered along the Creek Walk, a formal walkway landscaped with a variety of sculptures. There's also Creekside Brewing, with seating overlooking the creek. Enjoyed a vegetarian Red Pepper-Chipolte Soup, and a couple of Double Black Stouts. mmm.

From my lunch spot, I had a nice view of the creek and a few sculptures. Here are a few fish swimming gently in the breeze.

SF Sculpture: Three Heads / Six Arms - Poof It's Gone!

I visited SF's Civic Center Plaza Feb. 5, 2011, and snapped this shot of a huge 15-ton, 26-foot tall copper Buddha sculpture by Zhang Huan, entitled Three Heads / Six Arms. It is part of the 30th Anniversary celebration of  San Francisco-Shanghai Sister-City project.  You can watch a slide show of the sculpture being installed on May 4, 2010. You can see this slide show of it being dismantled on February 11, 2011.

S'Cruz Sculpture: Oceanic Spiral

Somewhere along the way, Santa Cruz came up with this great idea of adding sculptural installations along Pacific Avenue. [Map of Sculpture Tour here.] I try to visit Bookshop Santa Cruz when I'm in town, and recently found time to enjoy this sculpture that's located right in front of the renown bookseller. A group of Hammerhead sharks encircles a spiral of tasty anchovies. Pacific Ave. at Locust, S'Cruz.
